Here in Texas, we are privy to some of the best National Parks and State Parks in the country. But sometimes, we just wanna get out of the state and go somewhere a little off of the beaten path. Somewhere that may be a little further out of our comfort zone but that will let us create plenty of memories, nonetheless. Bottomless Lakes State Park, just outside of Roswell, New Mexico, is one of those wonderful trips that you’ve probably never heard of, but it’s worth every penny you spend getting there. The State Park was created when caves collapsed and left massive sinkholes which then filled with water, giving it the look of an extremely deep lake.<\/p>\n

Where is it?<\/h3>\n

Located in the southeast corner of the State, Roswell, New Mexico is legendary for their alien festivals and supposed UFO sightings. Year-round, people flock to the city to experience the frenzy, but little do they know, there’s a State park, not 15 miles away, that is completely devoid of stress. Bottomless Lakes is just outside of the city, so you can make short trips for necessities and groceries.<\/p>\n

What is there to do?<\/h3>\n

Roswell is famous for its UFO Festival, which takes place in July and the Roswell Jazz Festival, taking place in October. If you’d rather spend time admiring the natural beauty of the area, then Bottomless Lakes is the way to go. With 9 lakes to choose from, one as small as .1 acres and as large as 26 acres, you’ll see very different rock formations and notice the different water colors due to the the algae. During the Winter, Devil’s Inkwell Lake and Cottonwood Lake are stocked with Rainbow Trout, so you know the fishing is good! If you’re not a fisherman, that doesn’t mean you’ll be left out! There’s also boating, swimming, kayaking, bird-watching, or scuba diving. If you’re a fan of hiking, there are multiple trails for you to grab your camera and take in the nature that surrounds you and\u00a0enjoy the beautiful scenery that New Mexico has to offer.<\/p>\n

Where should we stay?<\/h3>\n

As with most National and State Parks, you have the ability to bring your RV to Bottomless Lakes. But we recommend always calling far in advance and reserving your spot. If you happen to request a time when it’s filled\u00a0up, there are a few RV parks within 10 miles of the park.<\/p>\n
