Here at FunTown RV, we see plenty of first time buyers and newbies that are brand new to the RVing game. We always tell them that they’ve made a choice that will change their lives for the better, as long as they take these 5 tips to heart. Without them, RVing will become a chore and your RV could end up taking up space in your driveway and be neglected for many years to come.

1. Take your time

Many first time buyers rush into buying their first RV because they like the way it looks or someone told them that THIS was the perfect RV for them. When searching for a new investment, you want to take your time and find the one that fits your needs and your lifestyle. There are many manufacturers out there and each of them create different layouts for different lifestyles. Some create luxury RVs for high end buyers, while others create budget models meant for function instead of fashion. Rushing into purchasing an RV means further down the road you may regret your decision. Lessen your chances of that happening by taking your time, doing your research and asking as many RVers you know what they have learned in their years of travel.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask

One of the best things about purchasing a new or used RV is the community that travels with you everywhere you go. The RVing brethren are some of the most helpful, kindest and knowledgeable people out on the road. They’ve seen many parts of the United States that others only dream about. When you have questions about certain parks, interstates, or even general RV questions, chances are they’ve already been there and done that.

3. Take Care Of Your RV

We can’t stress this one enough. We get all kinds of RVs here at FunTown RV for us to sell and some of them are in a state of disrepair so bad that we have to turn them away. Keeping your RV clean, in working order, and functioning properly will make sure you keep enjoying your travels for may years to come. The saying “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” definitely rings true. Fix any problems your RV may have before it gets out of hand and becomes a problem that you don’t want to deal with.

4. Take Advantage of Discounts and Clubs

If there’s one thing we all know, it’s that RVing is an expensive hobby. Fuel and campsite fees will eat at your wallet and make you question just how much it’s worth. By joining organizations such as the Good Sam club, you can save money on campsite fees, accessories and fuel! We always suggest joining one as soon as you take home your RV.

5. Go Somewhere You’ve Always Wanted

in the back of every traveler’s mind, there’s a national park or attraction that you’ve always wanted to go to,but never had the chance to. Now’s your chance to hitch up and take the family to Mt. Rushmore, Key West or Disney World. A new (or used!) RV opens up a world of possibilities and the only thing stopping you from visiting every worthwhile place is you! So, get out there a see the world!
