When you’re looking to get away from it all, there’s really no better way to do it than with a couple of friends or family members and an RV. Getting away for a long weekend, or an extended vacation does wonders for relieving stress. Not only do you need to get away, but where you go also helps you forget about the daily grind, as well. When you’re ready to take a trip to a place that seems like it’s another world, with mountains, lakes, caves and plenty more, then you need to head to Black Hill National Park in South Dakota, home of Mt. Rushmore!

If you’ve ever found yourself bored on an RVing trip you were on, then you need to head to the wonder that is the Black Hills area. You’ll find stunning landscapes, awe-inspiring formations of the man-made and the natural variety, and tons of outdoor activities. You’ll likely make this one of your go-to vacation spots once you visit.

Mt. Rushmore

Everyone knows about Mt. Rushmore, one of the defining symbols of America. But, what you might not know is just how amazing it is to see in person. After all, it is a mountain with 60 foot tall faces of our forefathers. If that’s not worth the journey to Black Hills, then I’m not sure what is!

Badlands National Park

Just a few miles from Mt. Rushmore, is 244,000 acres of protected prairie lands with no signs of civilization in sight. You can explore the buttes, spires and pinnacles, mixed in with the grasslands. Be sure to bring your camera, because you’ll want to get a record of this!

Devil’s Tower National Monument

1,267 feet up in the sky and just over the Wyoming state line lies a natural wonder. Devil’s Tower is a skyscraper of granite that challenges even the best of rock climbers. Rich with Native American history, this geologic formation will have you in awe.

Outdoor Recreation

With several lakes within a short driving distance, you can spend plenty of time outdoors, soaking up the sun, fishing, and swimming. Of course, with all the land that’s available to you, biking, hiking, 4-wheeling and more are all great ways to spend your vacation. Canoeing, horseback riding, golfing and hunting are just a few of the more popular activities to be enjoyed during your visit to South Dakota!

If you’re a winter RVer, then you’ll enjoy the skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing. The area is great for winter travel, as you can set up camp at a spot that has little to no snowfall, yet within a few miles, there’s constant snowfall, perfect for downhill skiing.

Black Hills National Park may seem like it’s a long drive, and it is, coming up from Texas as we do, but it’s worth every minute you spend admiring the natural wonders and enjoying one of the defining symbols of America. Next time you’re ready to get away for a while, consider Black Hills. You won’t regret it.
