How to Do Laundry in Your RV

Even when you’re on the road and enjoying your RV travels, you still have to worry about completing certain chores. One of the more challenging aspects of RV life is figuring out how you’re going to do laundry. Camping can be messy, so you likely have a lot of dirty clothes to clean, especially if you’ve got a big family. Fortunately, there are some strategies that can help make this task easier.

Hand-Washing & Line-Drying

The simplest and cheapest way to get your laundry done is to simply wash garments by hand in a bucket or a sink and use clothespins and a clothesline to hang them up to dry. Make sure you only hang up clothes outside; too much wet laundry in your RV can cause moisture build-up that leads to mildew and mold.

Find a Laundromat

Some campgrounds may already have laundry facilities available, which makes things much easier. You may also be able to locate a laundromat in a nearby town where you can get your laundry done. You’ll need a basket or bag for carrying your laundry, as well as your own detergent and dryer sheets and plenty of quarters. It can be fun to bring a board game to play while you’re waiting for your clothes to get clean.

General Tips

  • Doing small loads of laundry more often is typically easier than waiting until you have a massive pile of dirty clothes and towels to launder.
  • Fold or hang up dry clothes immediately after you finish your laundry to keep your RV tidy.
  • Get the whole family involved in the process of doing laundry so it doesn’t take too much time.
